The blessing of the Lord is legitimate. He is fully invested in blessing His family. God’s blessing makes one rich and comes without sorrow, toil, or agony. He is not capricious. God wants the best for His children. Sometimes, however, we are uncooperative with His plan. In His grace and mercy, He still finds a way to bless our lives richly.

Here are some of my favorite bible verses about the blessing of the Lord.

The Blessing Of The Lord In Genesis

Genesis 12:2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

Abram received the blessing of the Lord. The blessing is a gift of grace.

Genesis 13:2 (CSB) Abram was very rich in livestock, silver, and gold.

Abram was wealthy.

Genesis 26:13 (NKJV) The man began to prosper and continued prospering until he became very prosperous.

It appears that generational wealth began to take root.

Genesis 30:43 Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous and had large flocks, female and male servants, and camels and donkeys.

God, despite Jacob’s character flaws, honored the family blessing He promised to Abram.

Genesis 49:28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing.

The Blessing Of The Lord

Leviticus 25:21 Then I will command My blessing on you in the sixth year, and it will bring forth produce enough for three years.

This verse pertains to God’s people living by faith. They were commanded to give the land a Sabbath. If they were not generating food through farming how would they eat? God would provide.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28 Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.

The blessing in the Old Covenant was totally based on obedience. The law had to be obeyed without fail. Blessing if it was fully followed and cursing if it was not.

Deuteronomy 16:17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.

Paul seems to have used this verse for inspiration when he wrote to the Church in Corinth about giving. Here’s one of my favorite articles about the grace of giving. If your giving feels strained or coerced this article will provide hope and inspiration.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.

Blessings For Obedience

Deuteronomy 28:3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.”

Every sort of geography is covered. The only drawback was perfect obedience was required. Anything short of perfection was a failure.

Deuteronomy 28:6 Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

Again, God covers every eventuality.

Deuteronomy 28:8 The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

God, in some situations, commands the blessing.

Joshua 8:34 Afterward, Joshua read all the words of the law—the blessings and the curses—just as it is written in the Book of the Law.

The law has both blessings and curses based on obedience to the law.

The Blessing Of The Lord In The Psalms

Psalm 3:8 From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people.

God is in the blessing business.

Psalm 21:6 Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

In this context, God gives unending blessings with gladness and joy!

Psalm 24:5 They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.

Vindication sounds good, right?

Psalm 128:4 Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.

Are you curious about what that blessing is? If so, take a peek here.

Psalm 129:8 May those who pass by not say to them, “The blessing of the Lord be on you; we bless you in the name of the Lord.”

Psalm 133:3 It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Psalm 133 has always been one of my favorites.

The Blessing of the Lord In Proverbs

Proverbs 10:6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.

Right standing with God is not earned or deserved. It comes through Christ.

Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.

God is in the blessing business.

Proverbs 11:11 Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.

Things that make you go, hmmmm…

Proverbs 11:26 The people curse him who holds back grain, but a blessing is on the head of him who sells it.

Proverbs 24:25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.

Another interesting Bible verse about the blessing.

The Blessing Of The Lord In The Prophets

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.

Ezekiel 34:26 I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.

Hosea 3:5 Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.

Zechariah 8:13 Just as you, Judah and Israel, have been a curse among the nations, so I will save you, and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.

The Blessing Of The Lord In The New Testament

We are under grace and not under the Law. Yes, we are certainly required to be obedient but our obedience is not tied to the Law.

Romans 15:29 But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

I Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

Galatians 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Yes, Abraham was rich but this blessing is not financial in nature. We don’t need to twist scriptures to make them fit our narrative.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

God has blessed us, past tense, with every spiritual blessing.

Hebrews 6:7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God.

Hebrews 6:13-15 For when God made a promise to Abraham because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

I Peter 3:8-9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Once again, God is in the blessing business.

Benediction

Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
