There are dozens of Bible verses about faith. One of my favorites indicates that we walk by faith and not by sight. Other Bible verses about faith pertain to what Jesus called faith, the faith hall of fame (Hebrews 11), and that we are saved by grace through faith!

Faith is an inexhaustible subject. In today’s post, I am providing twenty-three (or more) Bible verses about faith to help you better understand the power of faith.

Commonly, when a Christian provides a biblical definition of faith they will quote Hebrews 11:1.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

There are well more than 23 bible verses about faith. Here are five that will provide you strength and hope!

Luke 17:5-6 And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”

Matthew 9:22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

Luke 12:28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?

I Thessalonians 5:8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

I lived on and off with my grandpa for most of my life as a kid. My grandpa fully lost his sight when I was very young. Blindness was an inconvenience to him but it didn’t stop him from running a farm or doing pretty much anything.

II Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Here are five more scriptures about faith to provide hope and strength!

Acts 3:16 And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Philemon 6 That the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

I Thessalonians 1:8 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out so that we do not need to say anything.

I John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Titus 1:13-14 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.

I’ve witnessed far too many Christians putting “faith in their faith” rather than faith in God. Their primary concern was increasing their faith or getting more faith.

Have faith in God!

Mark 11:22-23 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”

Good luck trying to earn your way into heaven. The just shall live by faith in what Jesus did for us. (Jonathan Edwards).

Galatians 3:10-11 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.”

Habakkuk 2:4 Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

This chapter is known as the Great Faith Hall of fame. I encourage you to read this chapter regularly.

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Hebrews 11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.

Hebrews 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.

Hebrews 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.

Hebrews 11:37-38 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented — of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.

God supplies grace and faith. He even provided the atoning blood of Christ. We are pretty much just in the way.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Colossians 1:21-23 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Ephesians 3:17-19 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?

James 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

None of these scriptures contradict all of the heavy lifting done by Martin Luther in the Reformation. True saving faith generates action.

James 2:20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

We would all do better if we kept our scriptures in context. The prayer of faith, in context, involved elders and anointing oil. Let’s not cherry-pick certain clauses that we “feel lead” to proclaim.

James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
