Hell is a subject that some ignore. Many deny the existence of hell. Some ministers avoid preaching about it and other preachers obsess over it. Chuck Palaniuk, C.S. Lewis, and Dante all wrote works of fiction about hell. Black Sabbath, ACDC, and Alice Cooper wrote songs about it. Jesus talked about hell. What does the bible say about hell?
Let’s take a peek.
What Does The Bible Say About Hell — The Sermon On The Mount
Matthew 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.
Matthew 5:30 And if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

Matthew 23:15 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.
Mark 9:43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.
Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
Matthew 13:49-50 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mark 9:47-48 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where “‘the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched.’

Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The devil and hell.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Matthew 16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Two Very Wrong Perspectives About Hell
A Loving God Would Not Send People To Hell
God is just. He is also holy. God’s expectation is perfection — which is impossible. Only Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life.
Jesus was born a virgin, lived a sinless life, loved fiercely and died by crucifixion. Death was not the end as it could not keep Him.
Romans 4:25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Salvation cannot be earned. We must put our faith in the completed work of Christ and surrender to Him.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Individuals choose hell. God does not do the sending.
Eternal Punishment Is Too Severe And Unjust
One really has to work hard to end up in hell. Pride might be the number one reason a person earns a hell sentence.
Ask most people if they are good and they will say that they are. None are good but many fail to believe that is the case.
James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Attempting to do more “good” than “bad” is a fool’s errand.
Galatians 5:4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
There is zero biblical evidence that anyone in hell is repentant. Those who resist God on earth will not embrace Him after judgment.
Hebrews 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.
Salvation is by grace through faith. We are justified by the blood of Christ — not by our good deeds.
