There are over 200 Bible Verses About Honor. We’re going to cover twenty-seven of them in this brief post. Honor, from a Biblical perspective, is multifaceted. The word has unique meanings depending on the context in which it is used.

Here are twenty-seven of my favorite Bible verses about honor.

Bible Verses About Honor — Psalms

Psalm 8:5 (NASB) Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!

This verse causes issues in many Christian circles. Some very reliable translations (NIV, KJV, NKJV, and ESV) mistranslate Elohim. Apparently saying that we’re “a little lower than God” got some translators nervous.

Psalm 84:11 (NIV) For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Psalm 91:15 (NIV) He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

The Psalm of protection is one of the most popular.

Psalm 112:9 (CSB) He distributes freely to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted in honor.

Is it possible that honor and generosity are connected?

Bible Verses About Honor — Proverbs

Proverbs 3:9-10 (NIV) Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Yes, it appears that there is a connection between honor and generosity.

Proverbs 8:18 (ESV) Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness.

Wisdom results in enduring wealth, honor, and righteousness. Spend some time each day in the Proverbs and maximize all three of them!

Proverbs 14:31 (NIV) Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

There are many ways one can oppress the poor. God has a soft spot for the impoverished. Kindness to the needy honors God.

Proverbs 20:3 (NIV) It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.

Our enemy loves strife. It’s honorable to avoid it.

Proverbs 22:4 (ESV) The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.

God is in the rewarding business. Humility, according to C.S. Lewis is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less. The fear of the Lord is often misunderstood. Here’s an awesome article on the fear of the Lord.

Our reward is riches and honor and life.

Proverbs 31:31 (NIV) Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

The Proverbs 31 Woman is special.

Bible Verses About Honor — The Prophets

Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

Jesus reiterated this verse while on earth (Matthew 15:8).

Jeremiah 3:17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the Lord, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the Lord. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.

Daniel 2:6 But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me.

Zephaniah 3:19 At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you. I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they have suffered shame.

Malachi 3:16 Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name.

Bible Verses About Honor — The Gospels

Matthew 6:2 So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Matthew 13:57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”

Mark 7:6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

Luke 14:10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.

John 12:26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
