Proverbs that promote wealth creation are quite common. Solomon, arguably the richest man to have ever lived, was generous with his wisdom, understanding, and insight. Proverbs, when read and applied are the secret weapon of any Christian who is willing to do the hard work.
My wife and I read a Proverb a day as our morning devotional. There are thirty-one Proverbs. On the first day of the month, one of us reads Proverbs 1 and on the second day, one of us reads Proverbs two. We continue to do this every day for the month and then start fresh each month.
Biblical Proverbs are packed with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and insight. Christians have specific privileges and access to the Wisdom of God. God provided an unsearchable treasure of wisdom. We can glean wisdom hidden from others if we’re willing to seek, search, and apply what we learn.
Over the years, I have developed my favorite Proverbs. Here are my thirteen favorite Proverbs that promote wealth creation.
Here’s another article that I wrote about wisdom.
#1 Wisdom Is Better Than Gold
Proverbs 3:13-14 (NIV) Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
I encourage you to keep reading beyond verse fourteen. The writer informs us that riches and honor are in the left hand of wisdom. One obtains wealth — which is often short-lived.
Wealth abides with wisdom.
#2 A Little Sleep, A Little Slumber
Proverbs 6:6-11 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
This is an extremely harsh warning that must be heeded. The results are catastrophic when the warning is ignored.
#3 Enduring Wealth and Righteousness
Proverbs 8:18 (CSB) With me are riches and honor, lasting wealth and righteousness.
Wisdom is making another appearance. This time wisdom tells us that lasting wealth abides with wisdom.
#4 Salvation Is By Grace Through Faith
Proverbs 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
Salvation is impossible to earn or purchase. It’s received by grace and through faith.
#5 Big Hat, No Cattle
Proverbs 13:7 One person pretends to be rich but has nothing; another pretends to be poor but has abundant wealth.
The authors of The Millionaire Next Door introduced the Big Hat, No Cattle concept to me (a must-read book even though it’s old). What does Big Hat, No Cattle mean?
Old money in Texas is not flashy or showy. New money tends to be flashy and showy. Cowboys with big hats, belt buckles, and boots but no cattle of significance.
#6 A Good Person Leaves an Inheritance
Proverbs 13:22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.
It’s impossible to leave an inheritance if one gives every penny to charity. God fully expects us to leave a financial inheritance to our children and grandchildren. How big? That’s up to you.
Is it always financial? In this verse, yes it is financial. Those who believe it’s “spiritual” fail to read the remainder of the verse.
#7 There’s No Such Thing As A Dead-End Job
Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit, but idle chatter leads only to poverty.
God honors work. He worked for six days and rested the seventh. Jesus worked from sunrise to sunset six days a week as well.
Talk is cheap.
In all labor there is profit.
#8 He Who Is Kind To The Poor, Lends to the LORD
Proverbs 19:17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.
God has a soft spot in His heart for the poor. He fully expects us to use His resources to care for the less fortunate.
#9 The Plans Of The Diligent
Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.
Profiting requires plans and active diligence.
#10 That Pig Won’t Stuff Itself
Proverbs 21:20 (NLT) The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.
This Proverb is one of the Savvy Stewardship Secrets found in this article.
#11 Debt Is Dangerous, Not Dumb
Proverbs 22:7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is a servant to the lender.
It is not sinful for Christians to take on debt. Debt is dangerous, however. Downsizing debt is always a good idea. Going into debt to live a financial lifestyle not yet earned is a sure sign of discontentment.
#12 Christians and Quiet Quitting
Proverbs 23:4 Don’t wear yourself out to get rich; because you know better, stop!
The idea behind quiet quitting is relatively new. In concept, it’s the idea of doing only what is necessary, while on the job. It’s been necessary because so many employers are stealing time from their employees.
It’s quite fine to be the best employee on the job and not allow your employer to dominate your time and encroach on your family obligations.
#13 Bad Things Happen To Good People
Proverbs 27:12 The wise see danger ahead and avoid it, but fools keep going and get into trouble.
Insurance conversations are typically dull and unsexy. However, savvy stewards vigilantly rightsize risk. Ignoring potential financial issues is terrible stewardship.
Befriend an experienced independent insurance agent. Yes, the commercials from companies such as State Farm, Liberty, All-State, and Progressive are often funny. However, they are also expensive. Someone pays for them. That someone is the consumer.
Independent agents typically provide superior coverage for smaller premiums.
